It is almost never coming from the water

Almost everyone on a lake or a river lot assumes the water is the source, and treats the shoreline. The places that matter are smaller, closer to the house, and mostly around the edges of the garden.

Mosquitoes breed in still water that sits for about a week — a blocked gutter, a sagging tarp, a wheel rut. The lake itself has things living in it that eat larvae.
